Give a Child a Brighter Future was delighted to welcome guests, vendors, and members of the community to this year's Lisa's Summer Bazaar, held in support of children in Lebanon during a time of ongoing hardship and displacement. The bazaar was attended by Her Excellency Farah Berry, Ambassador of Lebanon to the United Kingdom, alongside a former Lebanese ambassador, whose presence made the occasion especially meaningful. Throughout the day, attendees explored a wonderful range of Lebanese-owned businesses offering food, jewellery, clothing, homeware, and more. Every contribution will help fund essential care and support for children in need, and we remain deeply grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, and took part. We would also like to thank all the vendors and committee members whose generosity and dedication helped make the day such a success. Thanks to the incredible support shown throughout the bazaar, this year's fundraiser surpassed all expectations.

At Give a Child a Brighter Future, every project is rooted in a commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children across Lebanon. Through its latest initiative, the charity has helped transform the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Makassed General Hospital, enhancing the quality, safety, and responsiveness of care for critically ill children. Addressing Urgent Needs Before the upgrade, the PICU faced several challenges. Monitoring equipment was outdated and not fully integrated, limiting the ability to continuously track vital signs. Medical teams often relied on intermittent readings and manual follow-up, increasing the risk of delayed intervention during critical moments. The physical environment added further strain. Crowded bedside areas, multiple standalone devices, and exposed wiring affected workflow, infection control, and patient safety. Inconsistent equipment across beds also led to variations in care delivery. Delivering a Modern Solution With the support of Give a Child a Brighter Future, a comprehensive upgrade has now been completed. Advanced medical equipment was installed, and each bed is now equipped with multi-parameter monitoring systems that enable continuous, real-time observation. Central monitoring and alert systems also allow medical teams to quickly detect and respond to any signs of deterioration. The unit layout has been redesigned to create a more organised and efficient clinical environment, with standardised equipment across all beds to support safer and more consistent care.

As violence continues to escalate across Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes with little warning. Among them are vast numbers of children, now displaced, vulnerable, and in urgent need of support. Across the country, families are seeking safety wherever they can. While some have found shelter in schools and public buildings, many others remain in temporary conditions, sleeping in cars or out in the open, often without reliable access to food, clean water, or basic supplies. Emergency Relief on the Ground In response to the crisis, Give a Child a Brighter Future is providing essential food and supplies to displaced families across Lebanon, helping to meet immediate needs. Food parcels are being distributed to sustain families during this period of uncertainty. Alongside this, baby nutrition remains a key priority, with infant milk and essential nourishment provided to ensure that even the youngest children receive the care they need. Basic baby essentials, including nappies and other daily necessities, are also being delivered to support families who have been forced to leave everything behind. These vital supplies provide not only relief, but also a sense of stability during extremely difficult circumstances.

Through its partnership with Hammoud Hospital University Medical Center, Give a Child a Brighter Future is helping provide life-saving care to children across South Lebanon, ensuring that young patients facing cancer can access the treatment they urgently need. At the heart of this effort is the Lisa Moufarrige Paediatric Haematology Oncology Center, a dedicated facility designed to expand access to specialised care while offering children and their families renewed hope during some of life’s most difficult moments. The centre is named in loving memory of Lisa Moufarrige (1969–2023), a deeply valued committee member whose compassion, dedication, and tireless work with the charity helped make this project possible. Her legacy lives on through the children and families who now receive vital care at the centre. A Dedicated Space for Treatment and Care Since opening in October 2023, the centre has provided a welcoming, fully equipped space to support children through complex treatment. Building on a unit first established in 2020, it now serves as a key referral centre for paediatric patients across South Lebanon. The facility includes seven specialised patient rooms, infusion and inpatient treatment areas, procedure rooms, and a dedicated dialysis unit for children, bringing essential services together in one place. This integrated approach allows children to receive treatment closer to home, easing the burden on families and supporting continuity throughout their journey. Care is delivered by highly trained medical, nursing, and pharmacy teams, working closely with specialists at the American University of Beirut Medical Center to maintain a high standard of diagnosis and support. The centre treats patients from birth to 18 years old, working in partnership with the Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon to improve access, including financial support for those in need, while offering a full range of services such as chemotherapy and targeted therapies.

Through its ongoing work in Lebanon, Give a Child a Brighter Future is helping strengthen emergency medical care for children by equipping a new Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Turkish Trauma & Emergency Hospital, providing life-saving support to critically ill patients across the region. The hospital, which reopened in November 2024, had remained inactive for years due to local challenges before being restored to address the critical shortage of hospitals in South Lebanon. Today, it stands as the only Trauma and Emergency Centre in the region, playing a vital role in delivering urgent care. Strengthening Emergency Care for Children At the heart of this effort is the newly equipped PICU, designed to provide specialised care for children facing severe illness or injury. The unit includes five dedicated treatment rooms fitted with essential medical equipment, including respirators, patient monitoring systems, ultrasound imaging, and diagnostic tools, ensuring that children can receive the highest level of care when they need it most.

Through its partnership with SESOBEL , Give a Child a Brighter Future is helping children with disabilities access specialised support, providing 49 custom-designed electric wheelchairs that transform daily life for children and their families. Founded to support children with disabilities and their families, SESOBEL has long worked to ensure that every child is treated with dignity and given the opportunity to reach their full potential. A Tailored Approach to Care In 2024, this collaboration led to the delivery of 49 custom-designed assistive wheelchairs, each carefully adapted to meet the specific needs of the children receiving them. These wheelchairs are designed to support children in their everyday lives, whether at home, in therapy, or at school. By providing the right level of comfort and support, they help children take part in activities that might otherwise be out of reach. For many children, receiving a wheelchair is not just about movement. It is about gaining confidence, feeling included, and experiencing a greater sense of freedom.

As Lebanon continues to face the impact of ongoing conflict, many children and families have been displaced or are living in increasingly difficult conditions, with limited access to essential care. In response, Give a Child a Brighter Future has strengthened its efforts to provide urgent medical support and emergency relief, working in partnership with leading hospitals and specialists across the country. As part of this work, the charity began collaborating with Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah and The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children's Fund , bringing together expertise in treating children affected by conflict. The partnership was first announced in this video presented during the Annual Bazaar luncheon in 2024, in response to the war in Lebanon and the growing number of children in need of specialised care. The partnership focuses on both life-saving care and long-term recovery, including support for children in intensive care and those requiring reconstructive surgery, while also strengthening local healthcare capacity.
